The Columbus Blue Jackets look to inch closer to a playoff spot as they host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
The Red Wings have been playing better of late but they will not be participating in this year’s playoffs as they are a full 22 points behind Columbus coming into tonight’s game and they have a ton of issues to address in the offseason, starting with the draft. Detroit has been miserable on the road this season and have just four wins in their last 17 games overall which isn’t going to get it done in the competitive Atlantic division and they take on a Columbus side who is steamrolling teams right now, has won 12 of their last 14, and are a perfect 8-0 in their last eight games against Eastern Conference opponents. Detroit has struggled against the Jackets and don’t play particularly well in Columbus as they are winless in their last five meetings and are 2-7 in their last nine trips to Ohio and that trend is likely to continue in this spot.
The Jackets meanwhile have gone on a tear and are now sitting in third place in the Metro division with second place still in their sights, and with a victory in this spot the Jackets would move very close to locking up a playoff spot. Columbus has a very deep roster and have really turned things up in the second half of the season, and with one of the league’s best goatlenders in Sergei Bobrovsky gearing up for a potential playoff run we could very well see the Jackets go on a deep playoff run out of the Metro division. The Jackets have beaten up on the league doormats this season and have won five in a row against Atlantic division foes and with this being a home game and integral to heling clinch a playoff spot expect a strong effort from Columbus tonight.
The Wings are 8-19 in their last 27 Tuesday games and have hit the under in 10 of their last 11 following a win while the Jackets are 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games and 54-26 in their last 80 home games. Detroit is a full grade below Columbus and this means a ton to the Jackets as they cruise to an easy win.
