The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets -160 / Edmonton Oilers +140 --- Over/Under: 5.5
Tuesday night NHL action gives us a matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Edmonton Oilers have been alternating wins and losses for the better part of two weeks and that trend continued following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night. The Oilers never got their offense untracked although the #26 defense in the game really stepped up their game albeit in a losing performance.
The big time offense of the Maple Leafs never materialized either with the only goal coming off the stick of Zach Hyman just 34 seconds in to the first period with William Nylander and Jake Gardiner supplying assists. Curtis McElhinney came huge for Toronto as he brushed aside 41 shots to pick up the win while Laurent Brossoit logged 22 saves in absorbing the loss.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are sitting atop of the Metropolitan standings but their position is far from secure. Columbus has won consecutive contests following a 1-0 victory versus the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night where the offense stalled but was saved by the game’s third ranked defense.
The Blue Jackets saw Josh Anderson score the only goal of the game in the first and Sergei Bobrovsky took over from there with 35 stops for his 4th shutout of the season. Antti Raanta was a bright spot between the pipes for the Yotes with 33 saves in defeat.
Oilers are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning record and over is 4-0 in Oilers last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 4-1 in Oilers last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. Blue Jackets are 8-0 in their last 8 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 4-0 in Blue Jackets last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and under is 5-1 in Blue Jackets last 6 vs. Western Conference. Oilers are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings in Columbus and Oilers are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings and over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Columbus.
Offense has been the name of the game when these teams meet but depending on goalies I will back Columbus…
