The Edmonton Oilers look for their second game in as many nights while the Blue Jackets look to avenge a sloppy effort in Edmonton last week in which they were torched 7-0.
The Oilers have been very disappointing this season as they continue to find ways to lose hockey games but they have actually been quite competitive on most nights and haven’t been able to catch a break in their favour. Last night however the Oilers had one of the best efforts of the season as they shutout the Nashville Predators in the Music City marking the second time in three games they blanked their opponent and gave newcomer Ilya Bryzgalov some much needed confidence in goal. Edmonton continues their road trip in Columbus tonight as they look for a replicated effort from their matchup with Columbus in Edmonton but you can be sure the Jackets will be fired up for revenge. Devan Dubnyk gets the call for the Oilers in the second half of a double header as he matches up with projected starter Curtis McIlhenny for the Jackets.
Columbus has been very tough to figure out as they drop a game by seven goals like they did in Edmonton only to follow up a few days later by wall papering the Maple Leafs in Toronto by a 6-0 advantage making them incredibly tough to handicap. They do have some goal scorers and some talented players but it seems like they have enjoyed most of their success when those players are out of the lineup. Brandon Dubinsky and Marian Gaborik were both absent when the Jackets beat up on the Leafs so figuring out which team is going to show up proves difficult for these Blue Jacket contests. I love the way the Oilers played last night but I’m fearful they will feel the force of retribution here but not enough to bet on it. I suggest playing the total as both of these goalies have struggled this season and I see this one being a barn burner type of game.
