NHL action comes to Nationwide Arena where the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Florida Panthers.

The Florida Panthers need wins to avoid falling too far off the pace in the standings and appeared to be doing just that with four consecutive victories. However, Florida has now lost back to back games following a 4-2 defeat at the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Mike Matheson and Aleksander Barkov supplied the scoring for the Panthers for a 2-2 game in the third but the defense couldn’t hold the fort.

The balanced Red Wings attack featured four different players scoring with Andreas Athanasiou, Tomas Tater, Anthony Mantha and Gustav Nyquist each finding the back of the net. Mike Green added a pair of helpers to make the 38 save performance of Jimmy Howard a winner while James Reimer stopped 15 shots for the Panthers.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are third in the Metropolitan but they haven’t been playing well. Columbus has lost four of five with both ends of the ice to blame in their recent struggles. The Blue Jackets come in off of a 2-0 defeat at the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday where the offense struggled.

Colorado scored the only goal they would need at 12:48 of the second period off the stick of Mikko Rantanen on the power play while Matt Nieto added an insurance goal with 1:35 remaining in the game. Rantanen also had an assist and the Avalanche saw Jonathan Bernier pick up his second shutout of the year with 34 stops while Sergei Bobrovsky posted 30 saves.

Over is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and over is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 vs. a team with a winning record and under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Blue Jackets are 1-6 in their last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and Blue Jackets are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record and Blue Jackets are 21-5 in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Panthers are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Columbus and home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and under is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings in Columbus.

If I bet this one it would be for a small interest on the Blue Jackets as this game doesn’t look appealing …

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
