Tuesday NHL action features the Minnesota Wild taking the ice at the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Minnesota Wild are 6th in the Central standings but are a few good days away from taking over 4th. Minnesota entered the break off of a 6-3 loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins where Eric Staal, Mikael Granlund and Jonas Brodin scored. Marcus Foligno posted two assists but Devan Dubnyk gave up four goals for the Wild before Alex Stalock stopped 16-18 in relief.
The Penguins saw Dominik Simon and Evgeni Malkin each score two times with Carle Hagelin and Brian Dumoulin also finding the back of the net. Sydney Crosby and Phil Kessel added three helpers apiece and Casey DeSmith picked up the win for the Penguins with 23 saves.
The Columbus Blue Jackets begin the second half in second in the Metropolitan behind the Washington Capitals. Columbus will be gunning for back to back wins after upending the Arizona Coyotes 2-1 behind a strong defense and goaltending.
This one was scoreless until the third when Alexander Wennberg scored on the power play for the Blue Jackets at 1:19. The Coyotes evened the score at 7:39 on a power play tally of their own off the stick of Brendan Perlini before Cam Atkinson scored the deciding goal with 3:03 remaining. Sergei Bobrovsky picked up the win for Columbus with 38 saves with Antti Raanta stopping 25 shots in defeat.
