The Blue Jackets look to end a mini two game slide as they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Columbus on Wednesday night.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to pull to within single point of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the division lead with a victory in Columbus on Wednesday and can stay red hot in the process as they have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 contests. The Canadiens have been as consistent as they come this season and are right in the mix in the Eastern Conference playoff race as they sit at the mid way point with 26-12-3 record and have four games in hand on the Lightning for the Atlantic division lead. The Canadiens will go back to Carey Price here as he has been the team's workhorse between the pipes and if he can keep up his stellar play he should be in the running for the Vezina Trophy though the race is going to be tight with plenty of great goaltenders in the mix. Montreal is 13-7-1 on the road this season while the Blue Jackets are 9-10-2 at home.
Columbus is having a disappointing season to say the least as they were expected to be a playoff contender this season but at the moment they sit a game under .500 and are in sixth place in the Metro division sitting behind Pittsburgh, New York, New York, Washington, and Philadelphia. The Jackets need to turn things around in a hurry if they want to salvage this season and make the playoffs and with the way this division is set up it certainly is in the realm of possibility but the Pens and Isles have all but locked up a spot and the Caps and Rangers are playing very well so it is an uphill battle and I'm not sold the Jackets have the personnel to be in the playoffs. This is a make or break type of game as they will find out where they rank against some of the better teams in hockey and unfortunately for them I don't see this game ending too well as Montreal is the better team with the better goalie and at this price we have to jump on Montreal as a slight road favourite.
