The New Jersey Devils will be on the road for the third time in four games when the team visits the Columbus Blue Jackets. New Jersey comes off of a 5-0 defeat at the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday with neither end of the ice able to come through. The Devils offense hasn’t been lighting up the scoreboard of late and goalie Keith Kinkaid didn’t have an answer with all five goals given up on 27 shots.
Arizona scored just 34 seconds in to the opening period on a Jason Demers tally and doubled the advantage with Derek Stepan scoring with only 25 seconds remaining in the period. Jordan Martinook gave the Coyotes with a second period goal while Alex Goligoski and Dylan Strome scored in the third. Christian Fletcher added a pair of helpers for Arizona with Scott Wedgewood turning aside 27 shots.
The Columbus Blue Jackets look to extend their lead in the Metropolitan with a win versus the second place New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Surging Columbus had won eight of nine before falling at the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Saturday where the defense had issues. The Blue Jackets offense received scoring from Artemi Panarin, Matt Calvert and Zach Werenski with Pierre-Luc Dubois posting two assists but Sergei Bobrovsky gave up four goals on 23 shots.
The balanced Washington attack saw scoring from Brett Connolly, Alex Chiasson, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin on the power play in the second with just 48 seconds remaining in the period. John Carlson gave the Capitals two assists to make a winner of Braden Holtby and his 32 stops.
