The Jackets and Devils meet up in Columbus on Saturday night as both teams kick off the first leg of a double header.
The Devils head into Columbus coming of fa huge 7-4 victory against the Minnesota Wild and they will look to follow it up here with another great outing against the Jackets as they continue their push for an Eastern Conference playoff spot. New Jersey sits just six points back of the slumping Detroit Red Wings for the final position but will be hard pressed as the are right in the mix with a Flyers side that holds two games in hand on both teams meaning that every shift counts that much more as the season unwinds. Keith Kinkaid, who has been spectacular in the Devils’ crease of late, is expected to get the start as he will face off against Sergei Bobrovsky who hasn’t had a great season.
The Jackets sit in second to last in the Eastern Conference and are right in the mix for a top end draft choice in the off season but they can finish off the year as a spoiler and that could start with a win at home tonight against the Devils. Columbus stumbled out of the gate through the first month and a half of the season and essentially played their way out of a playoff spot by the end of October, but they do have some nice pieces and if they can rectify their glaring holes on the blue line they could very well be back in the discussion of a playoff contender in a year or two. As for now, there is no reason to suggest the Jackets will get a victory and even though they’re at home in this one I think the more desperate side in New Jersey will get the victory.
