|Date & Time||Saturday February 25, 2017, 5:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets -151 / New York Islanders +137 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Columbus Blue Jackets welcome the New York Islanders to town for Saturday evening NHL hockey.
The New York Islanders looked a bit flat at times before the All Star break but they have finally begun to click since Doug Weight took over behind the bench. The Islanders continued to play well Thursday with a 3-0 victory versus the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. Rookie Anthony Beauvillier opened the scoring in the first period with Anders Lee and captain John Tavares also scoring which was plenty for Thomas Greiss. Greiss was outstanding in the nets as he brushed aside 24 shuts to post his third shutout of the year and lead New York to their third win in a row. The Canadiens have had trouble scoring lately with 14 goals in their last ten games and Carey Price and his 24 stops were not enough to save the Habs and new head coach Claude Julien who is 1-2 since taking over.
The NHL has given teams a week long bye and by the look of things the time off might have helped injured players recover but teams as a whole have been rusty coming back from the long ‘vacation’. The Columbus Blue Jackets look to break that trend Saturday when they face the Islanders at home. The Blue Jackets last played Sunday in a 4-3 loss to Nashville with Brandon Saad, Zach Werenski and Oliver Bjorkstrand lighting the lamp. Alexander Wennberg and Seth Jones logged a pair of helpers each but Sergei Bobrovsky couldn’t hold down the Predators with 28 saves being a loss. The Blue Jackets had a modest two game winning streak end in the process.
The Islanders are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record and theIslanders are 2-10 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 while the under is 4-1-1 in Islanders last 6 games following a win. The Blue Jackets are 6-0 in their last 6 games playing on 3 or more days rest and the Blue Jackets are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference and the under is 4-1 in Blue Jackets last 5 vs. Eastern Conference. The Islanders are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Islanders have been tough in this match up and there have usually been plenty of scoring so my lean is over until I see goalies…
