Columbus Blue Jackets -110 / New York Rangers -110 -- O/U: 5.5
The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from the KeyBank Arena on Thursday night.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 2-1 overtime loss to Tampa Bay last time out. Tampa Bay took the lead just over two minutes into the game and that lead would hold up until early in the 2nd where Oliver Bjorkstrand tied the game at one just under four minutes into the 2nd period. The rest of the 2nd and all of the 3rd didn’t produce a winner, so it was off to overtime, but the extra frame was short-lived as the Lightning found the game-winner just :31 into OT. Elvis Merzlikins took the OT loss, falling to 12-7-6 on the year after allowing both goals on 30 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to build on a 3-2 win over Detroit last time out. Detroit took the lead just :27 into the game before Conor Sheary tied the game at one just :36 later. Dthe tie would hold going into the 2nd before Detroit re-took the lead just over seven minutes into the 2nd period. Marcus Johansson tied the game at two with just over five minutes to go in the 2nd. Sam Reinhart gave Buffalo the lead within the first minute of the 3rd period and despite Detroit outshooting Buffalo 10-5 in the final frame, the Red Wings wouldn’t find an equalizing goal as Buffalo held on for the win. Carter Hutton got the win to improve to 9-9-4 on the year after stopping 27 of 29 shots faced in the winning effort.
Columbus is 9-3 in their last 12 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Buffalo is 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 5-12 in their last 17 games following a win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Eastern Conference. The home team is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
The home team has had the bulk of the success between these two teams and Buffalo usually plays their best at home, but the problem is that the Sabres just haven’t been playing all that great, and a win over Detroit doesn’t move the needle much for me. Columbus has just been playing the better hockey for some time now, and getting the Blue Jackets, even on the road, at this price, feels like a steal. Give me Columbus and the cheap price here.
