Nationwide Arena and the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Philadelphia Flyers in Saturday afternoon NHL hockey.
The Philadelphia Flyers have painted themselves in a corner which means they likely have to win out and get some help to make a run at joining the postseason. The Flyers took a step in the right direction with a 3-1 victory at the Minnesota Wild who have gone in to a late season funk. Matt Read, Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek tallied for Philadelphia while Steve Mason recorded 24 saves to help the Flyers to their third win in eight contests. The Wild have been in a tailspin of sorts as they were once the best squad in the west but have now dropped six of seven following Thursday’s defeat. Zach Parise was Minnesota’s lone source of offense with his first period tally while the loss went to Devan Dubnyk who made 24 saves.
The Columbus Blue Jackets had an opportunity to move within a single point of the Washington Capitals for supremacy in the Metropolitan and for the best record in the game. I said opportunity, as everything went by the wayside in a 2-1, shootout loss at the Verizon Center Thursday that dropped the team to third behind the Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. Seth Jones lit the lamp for the Blue Jackets only goal with a huge 44 save performance between the pipes from Sergei Bobrovsky still not enough. The Capitals saw Dmitry Orlov score in regulation with TJ Sochi scoring the decisive goal in the shootout. Braden Holtby recorded 29 saves to fend off a big challenge to the Caps grip on the Metropolitan lead with nine games remaining in the regular season.
The Flyers are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and the under is 4-0-2 in Flyers last 6 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Flyers are 1-6 in their last 7 Saturday games. The under is 3-0-1 in Blue Jackets last 4 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation and the Blue Jackets are 8-1 in their last 9 vs. Metropolitan while the under is 5-1 in Blue Jackets last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Flyers are 0-9 in the last 9 meetings in Columbus and the Flyers are 2-12 in the last 14 meetings while the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Columbus.
The Blue Jackets have been very good when Philadelphia opposes them with the under doing well so I lean Columbus until goalies are announced…
