The Pittsburgh Penguins take to the road to finish off their back to back as they face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
The Penguins scored a come from behind victory in overtime against the Winnipeg Jets on home ice last night as Sidney Crosby hit the 1000-point mark for his career and they will look to keep it rolling in a pivotal divisional show down against the Jackets tonight. The Penguins currently sit two points up on the Jackets for second place in the Metropolitan division and with the league’s top offense firing on all cylinders right now they will look to make life miserable for Sergei Bobrovsky who is having a spectacular season in the Columbus crease and is a huge reason why they have turned their fortunes around. Marc-Andre Fleury got the call in the Penguins’ crease last night so we can expect to see Matt Murray get the call tonight as he will face off with Bobrovsky who has been a work horse for the Jackets.
Columbus meanwhile has cooled off since their impressive 16-game winning streak but they continue to stay in the hunt for the Metro division title and are certainly a contender to lock up a playoff spot. The Jackets are a year removed from drafting with the third overall pick and have quickly reversed their fortunes but it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as they were projected by many to be a dark horse team in the Eastern Conference but circumstances kept them from reaching their potential. However, I am still skeptical with this group and will take any opportunity to get a great price to fade them and against the defending champions here that is exactly what we get.
The Penguins are 39-14 in their last 53 against the Metro and 5-2 in their last seven playing in a back to back while the Jackets are 10-1 in their last 11 Friday games and 1-4 in their last five against the Metro. The Penguins might be tired here but they are a better team than Columbus and getting them at plus money is a gift we don’t usually get.
