Thursday NHL action features the Pittsburgh Penguins going on the road to face the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been up and down the past several weeks which has cost the team a chance at the Metropolitan title. Pittsburgh comes off of a 3-1 loss to Washington where Patric Hornqvist scored for the Penguins with Matt Murray allowing all three goals on 34 shots.
The Capitals offense saw scoring off the sticks of TJ Oshie, Dmitry Orlov and Tom Wilson with seven players recording points. Philipp Grubauer improved to 15-9-3 with 36 saves for the Metropolitan leading Caps.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are red hot with just a pair of defeats over the past several weeks to put the team in position to leap frog Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan standings. Columbus defeated Detroit 5-4 in OT Tuesday with the Red Wings getting two goals from Tyler Bertuzzi with Darren Helm and Gustav Nyqvist also scoring with Jimmy Howard stopping 36-41 shots.
Cam Atkinson topped the Blue Jackets with a pair of goals with Sonny Milano and Artemi Panarin also reaching the scoring column before Pierre-Luc Dubois scored in OT. Panarn, Seth Jones and Oliver Bjorkstrand added two helpers each and Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves for Columbus.
Over is 10-1 in Pittsburgh last 11 road games and over is 22-8 in Pittsburgh last 30 overall and Pittsburgh are 63-29 in their last 92 vs. Metropolitan. Columbus are 16-5 in their last 21 overall and Columbus are 55-26 in their last 81 home games. Home team is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings and over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in Columbus.
