The Toronto Maple Leafs head into Columbus on Friday night looking for their eighth win of the season while the Blue Jackets look to reach the .500 mark with their third win in a row.
The Maple Leafs head to the road looking to keep their winning ways afloat as they have taken seven of their first ten games and get a spark up front with the return of the suspended David Clarkson after serving his 10 game ban. Toronto has looked very solid for the most part through their first stretch of the season despite giving up a ton of shots to the opponent and having some sluggish periods but on the whole they’re going to be a very tough team to beat on a nightly basis and they’re incredibly resilient. The Leafs found themselves down two goals early against the Ducks in their last outing but responded with four unanswered markers to take the win in Randy Carlyle’s first game against his former club. Jonathan Bernier will get the nod in goal while the Jackets are likely to reply with Sergei Bobrovsky.
The Blue Jackets have played quite well the past couple of games and will hope that can translate into another inspired effort at home against a Maple Leafs team who looks like one of the best teams in the game right now. Columbus is hoping to get back to relevance this season after spending the last handful of years in the league basement and towards the top in the draft order and with the pieces they have acquired over the past few months they definitely look like a team who could challenge for a playoff spot. This is a tough game to figure out as the Leafs should by right come into Columbus and thrashes the Jackets but Toronto always seems to play in a letdown spot against inferior opponents and this game fits the bill. However, I think this year’s edition of the Leafs is different and the addition of Clarkson will be huge as I expect the Leafs to follow up their win over the Ducks with a solid outing against the Blue Jackets.
