The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets -145 / Toronto Maple Leafs +120 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Toronto Maple Leafs go on the road to meet the Columbus Blue Jackets in Wednesday NHL hockey.
The Toronto Maple Leafs control their own fate which means win the games on your schedule and no other team can do a thing. The Maple Leafs did just that Monday with a 4-2 victory versus the visiting Boston Bruins to maintain a three point lead over the New York Islanders for the final Wild Card. Toronto received goals from Morgan Rielly and Tyler Bozak on the man advantage while William Nylander and Nazem Kadri both scored empty netters. Frederik Andersen recorded 26 stops to pick up the win to lift Toronto to within a single point of the third place Bruins in the Atlantic. The Bruins scored first on a first period tally from David Backes with Dominic Moore lighting the lamp with ten seconds left in regulation while Tuukka Rask stopped 26 shots in defeat.
The Columbus Blue Jackets be one of the best teams in the game but they haven’t been a regular participant in the postseason so Sunday’s 4-1 victory at the New Jersey Devils had some special meaning. Columbus clinched a playoff spot for the third time and kept the pressure on the Washington Capitals for the best record in the game and in the Metropolitan Division. Brandon Dubinsky and Lukas Sedlak paced the CBJ offense with goals on penalty shots with Boone Jenner finding the empty net and also scoring while shorthanded. Sergei Bobrovsky recorded 35 saves in picking up the win as the Blue Jackets have won 12-16. The Devils saw Adam Henrique score their lone goal with Cory Schneider absorbing the loss.
The under is 5-0 in Maple Leafs last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and the under is 4-0-1 in Maple Leafs last 5 vs. a team with a winning record while the Maple Leafs are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and the Blue Jackets are 12-1 in their last 13 games playing on 2 days rest while the Blue Jackets are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win. The Maple Leafs are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and the road team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.
The trends say the Blue Jackets have looked good in this match up and I lean their way pending goalies…
