The Blue Jackets look to continue their impressive winning streak with a home victory over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs head into Columbus as they play out the string on their disappointing season and are now just two games removed from what should be an incredibly long off season and one that will come with a lot of changes both on and off the ice. Toronto was expected to reclaim a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs this season and while things started off nicely they quickly turned to dust and now they are in the running for the top overall draft pick in July and while they are not the odds on favourite based on their point total they could very well win the draw for a franchise changing talent. Toronto is 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and are a paltry 8-26-6 on the road this season which is the absolute worst mark in the NHL. James Reimer will get the start and he will go up against Sergei Bobrovsky.
The Blue Jackets have also been a disappointment in this Eastern Conference this season after making the playoffs a year ago and while they have been the hottest team in the league over the last two weeks it is way too late for them to be making a playoff push. Columbus is 9-0-1 in their last 10 games and are certainly building some momentum for next year and are demonstrating perhaps what could have been if they were at full strength the entire season but it is difficult for any team to do that and it cannot be used as an excuse. However, the Jackets are certainly playing like a team on the rise while the Leafs are a train wreck and will be in turmoil for a couple of seasons if they can't make some serious upgrades over the summer.
