NHL action comes to Nationwide Arena where the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.

The inconsistent Washington Capitals haven’t been as fearsome as in recent years but the team has an opportunity at back to back wins after knocking off Buffalo 5-1 on Saturday where Sam Reinhart scored in the third for the Sabres.

Alex Ovechkin topped the Capitals with a pair of tallies with Evgeny Kuznetsov, Andre Burakovsky and Lars Eller finding the scoring column. Kuznetsov also posted three assists to lift Philipp Grubauer and his 28 stops to the win while Robin Lehner took the loss for the Sabres with 31 saves.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are fighting for playoff positioning and points are in need. Columbus is shooting for consecutive victories after downing Chicago 3-2 on Saturday where David Kampf and Tomas Jurco provided the Blackhawks offense.

The Blue Jackets received goals off the sticks of Cam Atkinson, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Josh Anderson.  DuBois gave Columbus a pair of helpers and Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves for the win with Anton Forsberg getting the loss with 26 stops.

Under is 5-0 in Capitals last 5 Monday games and over is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 6-0-1 in Capitals last 7 games following a win. Under is 8-1 in Blue Jackets last 9 games playing on 1 days rest and under is 5-1 in Blue Jackets last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Blue Jackets are 2-10 in their last 12 games following a win. Capitals are 6-0 in the last 6 meetings and over is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings in Columbus and over is 11-5-4 in the last 20 meetings.

Neither team has been stringing together wins so you could question backing either side…

Pick:
Washington +113 // will update // I think Columbus is the right side after looking at the numbers

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
