The Columbus Blue Jackets return home to Nationwide Arena looking for a third straight win in the first round of their NHL playoff series with the Washington Capitals.

The Washington Capitals were looking to break out of their first round playoff ‘curse’ but the team has their work cut out for them. Washington blew a two goal lead on the way to a 5-4, overtime loss to Columbus for an 0-2 series deficit.

Alex Ovechkin paced the Capitals attack with a pair of goals with Jay Beagle and TJ Oshie also lighting the lamp. John Carlson and Nicklas Backstrom gave Washington two assists each while Philipp Grubauer gave up four goals on 22 shots before Braden Holtby stopped 7-8 shots in relief.

The explosive Blue Jackets saw Cam Atkinson lead the way with a pair of tallies with Josh Anderson and Zach Werenski also scoring in regulation. Matt Calvert scored the winner in OT with Werenski, Seth Jones and Artemi Panarin all adding two helpers to make Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and his 54 saves a winner.

Over is 5-0 in Capitals last 5 overall and Capitals are 5-0 in their last 5 road games and Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Over is 5-0 in Blue Jackets last 5 Conference Quarterfinals games and over is 4-0 in Blue Jackets last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and over is 4-0 in Blue Jackets last 4 vs. a team with a winning record. Over is 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings in Columbus and over is 16-6-4 in the last 26 meetings.

Both  games of this series have gone to overtime with plenty of scoring which has me looking at the over once again…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
