The Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks meet up in Dallas on Thursday night in one of the most exciting matchups of the day.
The Ducks look to start the year off on the right foot as they head into Dallas to face off with the Stars in a battle of heavyweights as both of these teams have a great shot at winning the Stanley Cup this season. Anaheim is loaded up front and will look to take advantage of the Stars back end that has a couple of holes beyond their top four and with a handful of play makers Anaheim can certainly run all four lines in this one. Anaheim will turn to John Gibson as their every game starter after letting Frederik Andersen go in the offseason, and the young American is up for the challenge as he has shown he can be the number one guy and he will have to be sharp in this one as the Stars have one of the best forward units in the league.
The Stars look to build on their impressive season from a year ago and have a Cup or bust mentality this season as they start at home against one of the best teams in the league. Dallas will be looking for a full season out of Tyler Seguin and if he can stay healthy he has the potential to light up the score sheet as he is a dynamic play maker and with Jamie Benn at his side these two should challenge for the scoring title. Dallas added a nice piece in Dan Hamhuis to their blue line to go alongside Jamie Oleksiak, Johnny Oduya, and John Klingberg and if that group can stay intact they should give enough support to Antii Niemi and allow the Stars to surge in the Central division.
The Ducks are 4-1 in their last five road games and 28-11 in their last 39 against the Western Conference while the Stars are 21-6 in their last 27 Thursday games and 1-4 in their last five home games. Anaheim is a great team and we won’t see them at plus money often but the Stars are a step ahead in terms of offense and they show it here.
