The Stars have reached desperation mode and face a must win at home when they host the Pacific division leading Ducks on Sunday.
The Anaheim Ducks have been as consistent as they come this season and with their 12 point lead atop the division marking the biggest gap in the league they are all but a lock to make the postseason. Anaheim is a very deep group that can beat you in many ways and if they can add a piece or two at the trade deadline they will be very tough to stop even in the competitive Western Conference. The Ducks are 18-8-4 on the road this season and will likely get Frederik Andersen back after a couple week absence with a neck injury and he will go up against Kari Lehtonen.
The Stars are in a very tough spot as they try to claw their way into the playoffs but without Tyler Seguin they are challenged offensively and they may not have the legs to do what it takes to qualify. Dallas was expected to do some damage this season and while their top end guys have performed well it is the secondary scoring that has lagged behind and defensively they are one of the worst in the NHL in goals allowed. Kari Lehtonen had a strong campaign last year but hasn't been able to follow it up this year and that among other things is a huge reason why the Stars will likely miss out on the playoffs. As for tonight the Ducks are getting a good price as a road favourite and should have no trouble here but with Andersen playing his first game back and both teams being able to score I like the over play a little bit better than Anaheim as an outright winner.
