The Stars look to play their way out of a funk as they host the Flames on Monday who are coming off a loss in Carolina yesterday.
The Calgary Flames took one on the chin again last night as they were pasted by the Hurricanes in Raleigh and now continue their road trip in Dallas against a Stars side that remains in the thick of the Central division race despite a 2-6-2 slump. The Flames are second to last in the Pacific division but remain just six points out of a playoff spot shockingly thanks to a weak division and the NHL’s implementation of three teams from each sector getting a berth in the second season. The Flames are a disappointing 7-13-3 on the road this season and will start Jonas Hiller as they face off against a Stars side that is 18-6 at home and will counter with Kari Lehtonen.
Dallas has fallen by the way side over the last couple of weeks as they have gone fro holding on to the safest lead in the league to sitting in second place thanks to their own futility and Chicago’s win streak that hit 12 games. The Stars need to get back on track and with three games in hand on the Blackhawks they are in the driver’s seat to reclaim their lead but they’ll need to start playing better and take advantage of games like this where the opponent is struggling and they should get the victory without question. The Stars are the better team here and while Calgary should be better than yesterday it won’t be enough.
