The Dallas Stars look to continue their recent success against the Atlantic division as they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to town on Monday.
The Canadiens head into Dallas look to find a rare victory against the Stars in Texas as they are in the midst of 3-8-1 stretch on the road against the Stars and according to the odds makers that trend is expected to continue. Montreal has quietly had a decent season and have certainly exceeded expectations but the nature of the NHL and any professional sport tends to shift the landscape of expectations as the season goes along and right now the Habs are looking for a rejuvenation. Montreal has struggled against Central division opponents as they are 18-37 in their last 55 contests and they haven’t been strong on the road over the last season and a half with a 14-31 stretch but against a Stars side who has come under fire recently from the front office the Canadiens might be able to pull off the upset.
Dallas meanwhile has had an interesting couple of weeks as they have continued to play decently well but their top players have received tough reviews from the front office as the team’s CEO has come out and criticized Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. The duo has welcomed the critique and don’t be surprised if they answer the call in a hurry here against a Canadiens side who can’t be happy to see the Stars in this spot after such a fire starting, public display. The Stars are 5-1 in their last 6 against the Atlantic and are 6-2 in their last 8 home games and will welcome a Canadiens side that has struggled to win games in this building.
The Habs are 12-41 in their last 52 games against a team with a winning record and the home team is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these sides while the Stars are 8-18 in their last 26 against the East and are 1-5 in their last 6 Monday games. Dallas is going to unload in this spot and taking them on the puck line might be the best play as they take out the Habs with ease.
