The surging Predators look to play spoiler in Dallas on Tuesday night as the home side inches closer to a playoff berth.
The Predators have had a disappointing campaign and while they are within striking distance of the playoffs and haven’t officially been eliminated they are pretty well written off with just four games remaining and a six point cushion to overcome. Nashville is undoubtedly playing some of their best hockey of the season and can put a dent in Dallas’ playoff hopes with their fourth win in a row tonight but playing a desperate team is never easy especially on the road. The Preds do have some talent on the back end and Pekka Rinne is one of the better goalies in the game but I don’t think Nashville has what it takes offensively quite yet and I think they’re a couple of years away from getting back to the postseason. They will have to solve Kari Lehtonen in this one if they want a chance as thriving as the underdogs.
The Stars are in a fierce battle with the Phoenix Coyotes at the moment for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference and are facing a must win situation in all of their remaining games if they want to secure their spot. Dallas has had breakout seasons from Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn who are putting up monster numbers offensively so it is fitting to assume they will get into the postseason over a Coyotes team who is still without their starting net minder. Dallas is pretty heavily favoured in this spot and for good reason as they need wins against lesser competition if they’re going to lock up a playoff spot even if it is just to match up with the top seed in a potential four game sweep. I like the Stars at home in this spot as Nashville just doesn’t have the arsenal that Dallas has and I like the top line for the Stars to take over this game in a big way.
