The Stars look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive with a home ice victory against the Islanders as the teams face off in Dallas on Tuesday.
The New York Islanders have been one of the league's most consistent teams this season and they will be rewarded for their efforts with a playoff berth and then some in the next couple of weeks. The Isles currently sit in a dog fight with the Rangers for top spot in the Metro division but they can reclaim their perch with a win against the Stars in this one and with Jaroslav Halak going in the crease there isn't reason to believe they won't. New York added some pieces at the trade deadline and secured their goaltending tandem by bringing in Michal Neuvirth but I think it is clear this is Halak's team and as we have seen from him in years past and this regular season he is more than capable of leading his team to victory. The Isles will look for their 19th win on the road while the Stars look to reach the .500 mark at home.
The Dallas Stars started the season with so much promise and expectation but they have failed to live up to it and now without their best player things are going to be very tough on them if they want to make the playoffs. Dallas currently sits nine points out of the second wild card spot in the West and have a tough schedule to close out and with the way other teams have been playing that are ahead of them in the standings I don't see a playoff run fabricating for this team this season. Kari Lehtonen has had an off year and he will need to be better next season for Dallas to regain some credibility and while he is capable of doing so I don't think he demonstrates it here tonight against a very good New York side.
