New Year’s Eve NHL action features the San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars facing off.
The San Jose Sharks have their sight set on moving up the Pacific standings and have won three in a row in very close contests. San Jose comes in off of a 3-2, shootout victory versus the Calgary Flames on Friday night to complete a perfect home stand. The Flames scored both of their goals in the opening period off the sticks of Garnet Hathaway and Mikeal Backlund.
The Sharks received a power play tally from Joe Pavelski in the first with Timo Meier lighting the lamp at the 12 minute mark of the third period. San Jose saw Pavelski and Joonas Donski score in the shootout to make a winner of Martin Jones and his 32 saves while David Rittich stopped 30 shots for the Flames.
The Dallas Stars are also trying to move up the Central standings and have been moving in that direction with wins in three of four following a 4-2 victory versus the visiting St. Louis Blues on Friday night. St. Louis scored twice in the third with Vladimir Tarasenko and Tage Thompson lighting the lamp.
The Stars received a second period goal from Mattias Janmark with Jamie Benn scored in the third. Alexander Radulov scored the winner with 2:21 remaining in regulation and added an empty netter less then a minute later. Ben Bishop recorded 35 saves for Dallas while Jake Allen gave up three goals on 28 shots to get the loss.
Under is 9-2-4 in Sharks last 15 Sunday games and Sharks are 1-4 in their last 5 road games and Sharks are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Central. Stars are 8-0 in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and over is 7-0 in Stars last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 6-0 in Stars last 6 games following a win. Over is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings and home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Dallas.
Offense has been front and center when these teams matchup so I’m leaning that way pending goalies…
