Saturday afternoon NHL action pits the St. Louis Blues against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.
The St. Louis Blues are going to the postseason but their stay might not be long based on their performance the past several weeks. St. Louis had lost seven straight while getting outscored 29-9 before getting back in the win column with a 2-1 victory versus Detroit where the Red Wings saw Andreas Athanasiou score with 1:45 remaining.
The Blues opened the scoring on a second period tally from Scottie Upshaw at the 1:12 mark before Alex Pietrangelo scored the eventual game winner at 14:37 of the third. Carter Hutton recorded 35 saves to pick up the win for St. Louis while Jimmy Howard stopped 23-25 for Detroit.
The Dallas Stars have been struggling to string wins together and missed out on a chance for consecutive victories following a 5-4, OT defeat to visiting Tampa Bay on Thursday. Tyler Seguin topped the Stars attack with a pair of goals with Brett Ritchie and Mattias Janmark also reaching the scoring column but Ben Bishop allowed five goals on 25 shots.
The balanced Lightning offense received goals off the sticks of Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli, Alex Killhorn and Steven Stamkos in regulation. Cory Conacher scored in overtime to secure the two points and JT Miller posted a pair of assists to lift Tampa Bay and Louis Dominigue’s to the win.
Blues are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Central and Blues are 0-6 in their last 6 vs. Western Conference and Blues are 0-7 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record. Stars are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and under is 6-0 in Stars last 6 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 4-0 in Stars last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Home team is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and over is 8-3-3 in the last 14 meetings and Blues are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
I’m not thrilled with the way the Stars are playing but I guess I’m less thrilled with St. Louis…
