The Blues look to shake off their ugly losing skid in Dallas on Friday night while the Stars can move closer to locking up the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Blues have been considered one of the best teams in the league for most of the season and have been in the thick of the President’s Trophy race over the last month or so but their loss last night in Minnesota has them in jeopardy of even winning the division. The Blues have dropped four games in a row and haven’t looked good in doing so which could damage their confidence a little bit heading into the second season as they run the risk of setting up a first round series with the Blackhawks if they can fend off the Avalanche. St. Louis is playing their second tough game in as many nights as both the Wild and Stars are fighting for playoff positioning and with a victory in this one the Stars can all but seal their fate as the eighth seed in the West. Brian Elliott will likely get the call in goal as he goes up against Kari Lehtonen.
The Stars are coming off a tough loss but have won six of their last 10 contests overall are in the driver’s seat to claim the eighth and final playoff spot in the West and they can pretty well seal it with a win here. Dallas has had very strong seasons from Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin who is thriving in his new environment and if they can sneak into the playoffs the Stars could very well pull off an upset or two as they have the offensive wherewithal to compete and a solid goaltending tandem in Lehotnen and Stanley Cup winner Tim Thomas. Dallas head into this one as slight home favourites against the Central division leaders but the line could shift depending on goaltending matchups but either way I like this spot for Dallas. They absolutely need to win this one and while the Blues are a very good team they will be without TJ Oshie and likely Ryan Miller here and I think that gives some extra confidence to the Stars.
