The Line: Dallas Stars -125 / Toronto Maple Leafs +105 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The American Airlines Center and the Dallas Stars open up the second half of the NHL hockey season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Toronto Maple leafs have a well deserved reputation for doing plenty of damage on the scoreboard and if they ever find a way to control opposing attacks, watch out. This was exactly how things played out Wednesday in a 4-0 rout at Detroit. The balanced Maple Leafs offense saw goals from Auston Matthews, James van Riemsdyk, Roman Polak and Nikita Soshnikov while Frederik Andersen earned back to back shutouts with a 22 save performance. The Red Wings struggled to even gets shots on Andersen and Petr Mrazek wasn’t at the top of his game for Detroit as he finished with 24 stops.
The Dallas Stars haven’t had the success they wanted in the first half of the season so winning the last game before the All Star break might provide some momentum and get the team back on solid footing in the postseason race. The Stars knocked off the visiting Sabres 4-3 with a comeback from two goals down on Thursday. Dallas saw a three game skid end thanks to a pair of goals from Patrick Sharp with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn also scoring to make a winner of Kari Lehtonen. The Buffalo offense saw Evander Kane score twice with Matt Moulson also lighting the lamp with Anders Nilsson absorbing the defeat.
The under is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 overall and the under is 10-1 in Maple Leafs last 11 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 9-1 in Maple Leafs last 10 vs. Western Conference. The Stars are 0-4 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and the under is 11-2 in Stars last 13 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while the over is 5-1 in Stars last 6 home games. The Maple Leafs are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
The Maple Leafs have been strong in this match up and I lean their way until I see goalies…
