The Washington Capitals and Dallas Stars meet Friday in NHL action at the American Airlines Center.
The Washington Capitals look for another victory after winning six of their last nine games. The Washington Capitals are averaging 3.5 goals per game and are scoring on 22.7 percent of their power play opportunities. Alex Ovechkin leads Washington with 29 goals, Nicklas Backstrom has 34 assists and John Carlson has 88 shots on goal. Defensively, the Washington Capitals are allowing three goals per game and are killing 77 percent of their opponents power plays. Pheonix Copley has allowed 32 goals on 373 shots and Braden Holtby has given up 74 goals on 838 shots. The Washington Capitals have allowed three or less goals in six of their last eight games.
The Dallas Stars look for another win after winning five of their last eight games. The Dallas Stars are averaging 2.8 goals per game and are scoring on 21 percent of their power play opportunities. Jamie Benn leads Dallas with 17 goals, Tyler Seguin has 23 assists and Alexander Radulov has 87 shots on goal. Defensively, the Dallas Stars are allowing 2.7 goals per game and are killing 82.5 percent of their opponents power plays. Ben Bishop has given up 59 goals on 770 shots faced and Anton Khudobin has allowed 40 goals on 501 shots. The Dallas Stars have allowed three or more goals in eight of their last 12 games.
The Capitals are 27-9 in their last 36 road games, 36-15 in their last 51 Friday games and 52-25 in their last 77 overall. The Stars are 7-3 in their last 10 home games, 16-7 in their last 23 Friday games and 2-5 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan. The Capitals are 4-11 in the last 15 meetings in Dallas and 7-21-1 in the last 29 meetings. The under is 11-5-2 in Stars last 18 vs. Eastern Conference. The under is 5-1 in Capitals last 6 overall.
The Washington Capitals are on the end of a back to back and are running into a Dallas Stars team that they haven't had much success against over the years. The Stars have not only won seven of the last 10 meetings against the Capitals, but that includes an overtime victory in the last meeting back in early November. Sometimes a team just has another teams number, and the Stars at home with their defense makes you feel like they can repeat such success. I'll side with the Stars and the cheap price.
