The Winnipeg Jets and the Dallas Stars meet in NHL action from American Airlines Centre on Saturday night.
The Winnipeg Jets will look to build on a solid start to the season, winning their season opener on Thursday by a final score of 5-1 over St. Louis. Patrick Laine opened the scoring for Winnipeg and was followed by four different Winnipeg players scoring over a 5:14 span in the 3rd period to seal the deal for Winnipeg as Adam Lowry, Blake Wheeler, Kyle Connor and Brandon Tanev each found the score sheet. Mark Scheifele also chipped in a pair of assists in the winning efforts. Connor Hellebuyck got the win after stopping 41 of 42 shots faced in the win.
The Dallas Stars also started their season on a high-note, using three second period tallies to shut out the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 on Thursday. Devin Shore, Alexander Radulov and John Klingberg each found the back of the net with Connor Carrick dishing out a pair of assists for his new team as did Jamie Benn who also had a pair of apples for the Stars in the win. Ben Bishop picked up the win and the shutout after stopping all 30 shots faced, earning the first star of the game honours.
Winnipeg is 13-5 in their last 18 division matchups and 4-0 in their last 4 Saturday games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games following a win. Dallas is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 1-8 in their last 9 games following a win while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 home games. Winnipeg is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Dallas.
Before the season started, I tabbed the Jets to be my cup finalist out of the West as I just think that Winnipeg has the deepest team in the NHL. Winnipeg also showed that on opening night by going on the road and walloping a very good St. Louis team. Now the Jets get to take on a Stars team that they’ve owned over the last couple of seasons, winning the last eight meetings and Hellebuyck is 6-1-1 with a 1.86 ERA against the Stars in his career. Getting the team that’s had all of the luck in this series with a goaltending advantage at plus money sounds good to me, so give me Winnipeg here.
