The Ducks head into the Motor City looking for their 6th straight victory while the Red Wings look to shake a mini two game slide.
The Anaheim Ducks continue to prove they have what it takes to win a Stanley Cup as they are playing some of the best hockey in the league right now as they possess the second best record in the NHL with a 23-7-5 mark in 35 games. The Ducks sit just two points back of the Chicago Blackhawks for the league lead but sit atop the Pacific division putting them ahead of the Kings, Sharks, Canucks and Coyotes in what is a very competitive division. Anaheim has won five straight games and has yet to lose in regulation at home this season meaning 10 of their 11 losses so far this season have come on the road where they find themselves tonight. Luckily for Anaheim they are heading into Detroit to face the Red Wings who have been uncharacteristically very poor at home this season and with the cameras shining a brighter spotlight due to the presence of HBO it could be another distraction that the Wings can’t afford while playing at the Joe.
The Red Wings have lost two games in a row dropping them to 4th place in the Atlantic division with a mediocre 15-11-9 mark on the season – a record that could be much better had they not dropped a league high nine games in overtime or shootout. Detroit has a solid roster with mainly veteran guys who have been called on to lead the team offensively and while they were pegged by many to be the team to beat coming out of the Eastern Conference this season they haven’t looked the part as they seem to be a step behind the likes of Boston and Pittsburgh. The Wings are no strangers to the league powers as they spent so much time in the Western Conference so playing the Ducks won’t be a huge surprise but I do think Anaheim has the edge in terms of top end offensive talent. Either way I like this to be a close game and as such I think scoring will be at a premium and I like this one to stay under the total.
