The Arizona Coyotes look to shake off an ugly 7-0 loss on the road against the Penguins last night as they head into the Joe to battle the Detroit Red Wings.
The Coyotes were blanked in one of their worst outings of the season last night against the defending champions and now they continue their road trip in the Motor City against a Red Wings team looking to improve their mark on home ice. Arizona was expected to play their way into a potential playoff spot this season as they have a pretty decent young core but they have fallen flat and are looking like they will draft with a pretty favourable position in the offseason if they can’t right the ship in a hurry. Despite getting the nod last night we can expect to see Mike Smith back in the crease here as he will go up against Petr Mrazek who is doing a nice job as the every game starter for the Winged Wheels.
The Red Wings need to sharpen up on home ice as they have been downright awful at the Joe this season and haven’t been putting forth a nice product for the arena’s swan song as they are 1-6 in their last seven in Detroit. However, the Wings have been playing well away from home and have made up for it by going 8-3 in their last 11 games against the Western Conference and with the Coyotes in town coming off a shellacking last night they are in a good position here and should have no issues getting the win. The Wings have beaten up on the league doormats of late and the Coyotes certainly fit the bill here as Detroit is 15-6 in their last 21 against a team with a winning percentage under .400.
The Coyotes are 1-7 in their last eight games when playing in a 4-6 situation and are 17-35 in their last 52 overall while the Wings are 2-5 in their last seven on one day’s rest and 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games. The Coyotes are a mess right now and while Detroit has been bad at home I think they can do enough here.
