The Bruins head into the Joe looking to hand the Red Wings another home loss while Detroit looks to move above .500 at home.
Boston continues to be among the elite in the NHL this season as they sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with 34 points through 24 games and should very much be in the running to win the President’s Trophy this season. The Bruins are a mean team as they play very physical and grind out a lot of victories but also have a ton of finesse and can score with the best of them. However, it looks like the early candidate for the Vezina Trophy and the team’s MVP so far is Tuukka Rask as he is enjoying a spectacular start to the year – just his second as a full time starter in the league. Rask is in the mix for all major goaltending stats and should find his name in conversations for the game’s top honour by season’s end. The B’s looks for yet another road win as they head into Detroit to face the slumping Red Wings.
Detroit was projected to make some noise in the Eastern Conference this season and while they still have a ton of opportunities to right the ship they’re in the midst of an ugly slump that has them with just two wins in their last 10 contests. Detroit is an older team and while that might resonate with some as having a lot of experience it has fabricated into a slower lineup that struggles against talented teams. Detroit is coached by one of the game’s best so surely he will be able to at least lay the infrastructure of a turnaround but the Bruins are a very tough opponent and are never an easy out. While I am inclined to take the Wings as a home dog as it is a rare occurrence I can neither bet against the Bruins right now nor back the Wings until one of their trends starts to reverse. I like the Bruins here to hand the Wings another loss at the Joe.
