The Detroit Red Wings look to snap out of their ugly losing ways against divisional opponents as they welcome the Buffalo Sabres to town on Friday evening.
The Sabres head into the Motor City on Friday night looking to shake off a 2-5 stretch against the Atlantic division and take down the Red Wings at Little Caesar’s Arena as both teams look to improve their standing in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo has been dismal on the road over the last few seasons and have just six wins in their last 24 games overall and despite having some of the league’s top players donning their jersey they have have had a tough time finding consistency in their game and this doesn’t look like the spot to find it as the Wings are coming off a huge home ice win over the Calgary Flames and should be fired up for an encore in this spot. The Sabres are expected to send Robin Lehner to the crease as he will face off against Jimmy Howard.
The Red Wings meanwhile are coming off a huge 8-2 home win over the previously red hot Calgary Flames and will look to make it their second multi goal win in three days as they match up quite well with a Sabres side that has had their troubles in the early going this season. The Wings have struggled with time off as they are 1-7 in their last eight games when playing on one day’s rest but they have been competitive in those games as the under has hit in 16 of their last 21 and in their last six overall when having a day in between games.
The Sabres are 3-9 in their last 12 Friday games and 1-4 in their last five against the East while the Wings are 15-36 in their last 51 against the Atlantic and 0-4 in their last four when scoring five or more in their previous outing. The Wings could be in a trap here but overall they have a deeper roster and at home so they are the play here.
