The Red Wings look to rebound after getting shelled by the Penguins on Saturday as they host the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.
The Buffalo Sabres play out the rest of their regular season string beginning with a road date in Detroit on Monday night as a disappointing yet productive and promising season nears a close. The Sabres were expected to take a step forward this year after making some moves in the offseason but injuries to key players and a lack of consistency has them sitting third to last in the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining. The Sabres could finish with a winning record though if they can turn up the intensity over the last two weeks as they are just three games under the .500 mark and do have some winnable games left on the schedule including this one against a struggling Wings side. Chad Johnson is expected to get the call in the Buffalo crease as he will likely be countered by Jimmy Howard here as the Wings are kicking off a back to back.
The Red Wings spoiled a great opportunity to get themselves back in the race for an Eastern Conference wild card spot but were absolutely trashed by the Pittsburgh Penguins at home on Saturday and now sit tied with the Flyers with 85 points and have played one more game. The Wings head into this one sitting 10 games above the .500 mark and are on track to extend their playoff qualification record to 25 years but if they can’t right the ship quickly it could all go up in flames as there is only seven games left in their regular season schedule. Detroit absolutely needs to win this one if they want to make the playoffs and I see them doing enough to take down the Sabres at home.
