The Buffalo Sabres end the NHL regular season at the Detroit Red Wings.
The Buffalo Sabres halted an eight game slide with a 5-2 victory against visiting Ottawa. Anthony Duclair and Jean-Gabriel Pageau found the back of the net for Ottawa in the first period for a short lived 2-1 lead. Joey Daccord was charged with five goals on 45 shots in his Senators debut.
The balance Buffalo attack received scoring from Victor Olofsson, Kyle Okposo, Sam Reinhart, Jack Eichel and Jason Pominville. Eichel added a pair of helpers for the Sabres and Carter Hutton picked up the win with 21 stops.
The surging Detroit Red Wings suffered a 4-1 defeat at Pittsburgh on Thursday that snapped a six game winning streak. Matt Puempel lit the lamp on the PP for Detroit in the first and Jimmy Howard was charged with four goals on 47 shots to get the loss. Phil Kessel pace the Penguins with a pair of tallies with Jake Guentzel and Sydney Crosby lighting the lamp. Crosby and Patric Hornqvist assisted twice each and Matt Murray made 33 saves to get the win.
