The Calgary Flames defeated San Jose 8-5 on Monday for wins in two of three. Joonas Donskoi scored twice for San Jose with Lukas Radil, Brent Burns and Joe Thornton also lighting the lamp. Evander Kane and Erik Karlsson added two helpers each and Aaron Dell was charged with eight goals on 27 shots to get the loss for the Sharks.
The explosive Calgary offense saw Johnny Gaudreau, Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk score twice each with Elias Lindholm and James Neal also reaching the scoring column.
Gaudreau and Tkachuk also had two assists while Sean Monahan added five helpers to lift the Flames and make a winner of David Rittich and his 28 stops.
The Detroit Red Wings are in the middle of a tailspin that has reached five losses in a row after a 4-3 SO defeat to visiting Florida on Monday. Detroit took a 3-0 lead in the first with Andreas Athanasiou, Gustav Nyquist and Thomas Vanek scoring while Jimmy Howard recorded 24 stops.
Florid received second period goals off the sticks of Jared McCann, Henrik Borgstrom and Jayce Hawryluk. Jonathan Huberdeau scored the only goal of the shootout while Roberto Luongo allowed three goals on eight shots before James Reimer stopped 12 shots in relief to pick up the win for the Panthers.
