The Flames look for their third win in a row and second in as many nights as they travel from Boston to Detroit to face off against the Red Wings.
The Calgary Flames continue to impress as the season moves along and while many expected they would fall out of contention in the Western Conference playoff picture they have stepped up once again and took down the Bruins in Boston last night to restore a two point edge on the Kings and Sharks. Calgary wasn't expected to do a whole lot of anything this season but a complete team game rejuvenated this group and their play from the back end was among the best in hockey and while that has taken a serious hit with Mark Giordano being out for the season the team continues to find ways to win. However, they head into the Joe on Friday night to battle with the Red Wings who are in their own race in the Atlantic division and have won three games in a row so things may be tougher to come by on Friday than they were on Thursday.
The Red Wings have quietly pieced together another strong season and if not for the race in the Metro division or the impressive seasons put together by the Canadiens and Lightning than we would be talking a lot more about the red and white. However, it has become an expectation that the Wings not only make the playoffs but to perform well when they get there and even though Mike Babcock has done another amazing job with this group that is a complete overhaul from the group just two or three years back he will likely be swept under the rug for the Jack Adams. The Wings are big time favourites here which scares me a bit as Calgary at the moment is in a playoff position and while I do think Detroit gets the win I like the total better as this one should be a defensive show down that will come down to the wire.
