The Detroit Red Wings look to head into the playoffs with a little momentum and sweep the Carolina Hurricanes in the process.

The Hurricanes have ben eliminated from playoff contention for quite some time and have lost five of their last seven games. A lot of these losses are due to poor defense, as the Hurricanes have allowed three or more goals in three straight games, and goalie Anton Khudobin just allowed five goals in a Thursday loss to the Washington Capitals. Offensively, Jeff Skinner has four points in his last five games. The Carolina Hurricanes are 16-18-4-1 on the road this season.

The Red Wings have won five of their last seven games and are coming off a Wednesday heartbreaking loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a shootout. The Red Wings have really found their offensive rhythm as of late, scoring at least three goals in eight straight games. Daniel Alfredsson has four assists and five points in his last five games. Meanwhile, goalie Jimmy Howards has allowed two goals apiece in his last four starts. The Detroit Red Wings are 18-12-5-5 at home this season.

The Hurricanes are 16-37 in their last 53 games playing on 0 days rest and 1-4 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record. The Red Wings are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and 1-4 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan. The Hurricanes are 1-11-1 in the last 13 meetings in Detroit, while the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

While there's little value to taking the Red Wings, there's also little chance the Hurricanes are going to win. We're talking about a Carolina team that's won only one game in Detroit in the last 13 meetings. There's better games on the card to choose from, but if you're forced to pick, go ahead and side with Detroit.

Pick:
Detroit Red Wings -195
