The Chicago Blackhawks look to shake off a 1-0 shutout loss yesterday to the Ducks as they travel to Joe Louis Arena to face off with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Blackhawks suffered a rare home loss on Thursday night as the Anaheim Ducks scored a big 1-0 victory at the United Center but Chicago gets right back after it on Friday as they face off with the Detroit Red Wings in an Original Six show down. The Hawks are looking to take top spot in the Central division as they are fighting tooth and nail with the Minnesota Wild and while it looks as though both teams are a lock for the postseason it is certainly an exciting race to watch as home ice will surely be a big factor in the Western Conference playoffs and getting top honour is certainly on both teams’ wish list. Chicago is expected to send Corey Crawford to the crease here as he will face off against Petr Mrazek who has retaken top spot on the Wings’ goaltending depth chart.
The Red Wings meanwhile have had a tough season and it looks as though their impressive 25-year playoff streak is going to come to an end as they are well back in the Eastern Conference and have lost four games in a row. Detroit is usually a tough out on home ice regardless of where they sit in the standings but they have dropped six of their last eight at the Joe and they don’t seem to be giving one of the world’s most famous arenas the proper send off as they can’t seem to find a groove when playing in front of their home fans. Detroit is however a perfect 6-0 in their last six home games when playing a road trip that stretches at least a week in length and that is exactly where they find themselves in this one.
The Hawks are 10-1 in their last 11 road games and 4-1 in their last five Friday games while Detroit is 1-4 in their last five against the Central and 0-6 in their last six playing on one day’s rest. Chicago is coming off a loss but they get back in the win column here as they extend Detroit’s misery with another home loss here.
