Saturday NHL action features the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Edmonton Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers hope to stay hot following a 4-0 victory against visiting Chicago on Thursday gave the team wins in four of five. The Blackhawks ran in to a hot goalie as they recorded 40 shots while Cam Ward absorbed the loss with all four goals allowed on 29 shots.
Drake Caggiula paced the Oilers with a pair of markers with Jason Garrison and Alex Chiasson also scoring. Tobias Rieder added two assists and Mikko Koskinen brushed aside all 40 shots he faced to get the win for Edmonton.
The Detroit Red Wings have recorded their first winning streak of the 2018-19 campaign with three consecutive victories after downing New Jersey 4-3 on Thursday. Blake Coleman, Sami Vatanen and Marcus Johansson lit the lamp for New Jersey with Travis Zajac logging two assists while Cory Schneider gave up three goals on 30 shots.
The balanced Red Wings offense saw scoring from Martin Frk, Michael Rasmussen, Justin Abdelkader and Trevor Daley. Dylan Larkin gave Detroit two helpers and Jimmy Howard got the win with 25 stops.
Oilers are 4-0 in their last 4 road games and under is 9-2 in Oilers last 11 games playing on 1 days rest and Oilers are 4-1 in their last 5 overall. Under is 3-0-1 in Red Wings last 4 vs. a team with a winning record and Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and Red Wings are 0-6 in their last 6 vs. Pacific. Oilers are 2-10 in the last 12 meetings in Detroit and Oilers are 8-21 in the last 29 meetings.
Edmonton has won four straight on the road but have had little success at Detroit historically. However, I like their defense a bit more here…
