The Line: Detroit Red Wings -120 / Florida Panthers +109 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Florida Panthers visit Little Caesars Arena to take the ice with the Detroit Red Wings in Friday NHL action.
The Florida Panthers were playing their best hockey of the season with five consecutive victories behind outstanding defense and goaltending before the team was cooled off for a night in a 5-1 defeat at the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night. Jonathan Huberdeau scored the only Panthers goal and the defense couldn’t control the scoreboard.
The Wild saw Eric Staal and Matt Cullen score two goals apiece with Charlie Coyle also reaching the scoring column. Jared Spurgeon also supplied three helpers to make Devan Dubnyk and his 25 saves a winning performance for Minnesota. James Reimer allowed three goals on 26 shots for Florida with Harri Satri coming in to stop 13-14 shots.
The Detroit Red Wings haven’t been scoring a lot but the defensive end of the ice has picked up the slack in leading the team to a three game winning with only four goals allowed. Detroit comes in off of a 2-1, overtime victory versus the visiting Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. Ryan Dzingel scored unassisted for the Senators just 39 seconds in to the third period.
The Red Wings opened the scoring at 11:15 of the first period with Andreas Athanasiou lighting the lamp on assists from Anthony Mantha and Martin Frk while Athanasiou got his second just six seconds in to the extra session on a helper from Dylan Larkin. Jimmy Howard recorded 33 saves for the Red Wings while Craig Anderson allowed both goals on 35 shots for Ottawa.
Panthers are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and under is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and under is 7-0 in Panthers last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. Under is 4-0 in Red Wings last 4 Friday games and under is 5-0 in Red Wings last 5 overall and Red Wings are 4-0 in their last 4 home games. Road team is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and Panthers are 8-1 in the last 9 meetings in Detroit and under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings in Detroit.
Florida seems to have a small edge in this matchup but I’m looking at the under pending goalies…
