The Florida Panthers look to shake off a tough loss in Buffalo last night as they continue their road trip at Joe Louis Arena against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Panthers couldn’t get anything going offensively against a Sabres team that isn’t really known for their stingy defense and now they take to the road to face off against a Red Wings team who is off to a nice start this season. Florida was a playoff team a year ago and many had them projected to not only get back to the playoffs this season but to go on a serious run as they have a pretty well balanced lineup, a solid goaltending tandem, and a great balance of youth and veteran experience. The Cats will turn to James Reimer in this one who is out to prove he deserves more starts in the Florida cage as he will match up with Petr Mrazek who has been excellent this season.
The Red Wings were expected to regress a bit this season and many had this pegged as the year their illustrious playoff streak would come to an end as they lost Pavel Dastyuk to the KHL and don’t much in terms of offensive fire power. However, the Wings continue to find ways to win and have been one of the biggest surprises to start this season, and a show down on Sunday at home against the Panthers who are also playing in a back to back could have them in a great spot once again.
The Panthers are 1-4 in their last five overall and 0-4 in their last four road games while the Wings are 6-0 in their last six overall and 1-4 in their last five against the Atlantic. Detroit is off to a red hot start but I think the Panthers rebound in a big way here as Reimer steps up and gets the Panthers back in the win column.
