The Florida Panthers visit the Detroit Red Wings in a New Year’s Eve NHL tilt.
The Florida Panthers hope to keep the momentum going after a 2-1 victory against visiting Philadelphia on Saturday gave the team wins in three of four. Shayne Gostisbehere scored at 1:45 of the first period for Philadelphia. Jordan Weal and Scott Laughton logged assists and Carter Hart took the loss for the Flyers with both goals allowed on 36 shots.
Mike Hoffman scored on the power play for the Panthers first goal in the third with Jonathan Huberdeau netting the winner with 1:06 remaining. Aleksander Barkov assisted on both goals for Florida and James Reimer stopped 34 shots to get the win. The struggling Detroit Red Wings couldn’t get going Saturday in a 5-1 loss at Dallas and have dropped eight of nine. The Red Wings received a third period power play goal from Dylan Larkin while Jonathan Bernier allowed five goals on 42 shots to get the loss.
Dallas received two goals from Alexander Radulov with Blake Comeau, Tyler Pitlick and Jason Spezza each lighting the lamp. Radek Faksa recorded two assists for the Stars who received 33 saves from Ben Bishop.
