The Wild look to shake off a tough loss at home against the Senators last night as they head into Detroit to face off with the Red Wings.
The Minnesota Wild spoiled an opportunity to pad their lead in the Western Conference wild card race as they dropped a 3-2 game at home against the Senators last night less than 24 hours after their opponents were sent packing from the playoff picture. Minnesota will look to rebound as they travel to the Joe to face off against a Red Wings side that is fighting tooth and nail in the Eastern Conference playoff race and currently sit two points back of the surging Flyers who still have a game in hand. With this being a back to back I wouldn’t be surprised to see Darcy Kumper get the call here but Devan Dubnyk will be the guy come playoff time so perhaps getting him in a groove leading up to a potential first round show down is best at this point in the season.
The Red Wings meanwhile have really faltered since the all-star break and have gone from potentially locking up top seed in the Atlantic division to running the risk of missing the playoffs altogether and are a modest 5-5 in their last 10 contests. The Wings are looking to extend their own record of consecutive playoffs made with this being the quarter century mark but they are in big trouble if they cant find ways to win games down the stretch as they are currently on the outside looking in and face a tough stretch to finish the season. The Wings are 20-13-6 at home this season and while it isn’t the greatest mark they have certainly been better at home than on the road and they’ll need every fan at the Joe to be making noise here if they’re going to win and I think they get it.
