The New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings meet Friday in NHL action at the Little Caesars Arena.
The New Jersey Devils look for a nice road victory after splitting their last eight games. The New Jersey Devils are averaging 2.7 goals per game and are scoring on 17 percent of their power play opportunities. Kyle Palmieri leads New Jersey with 27 goals, Nico Hischier has 28 assists and Blake Coleman has 198 shots on goal. Defensively, the New Jersey Devils are allowing 3.4 goals per game and are killing 84.4 percent of their opponents power plays. Cory Schneider has given up 64 goals on 666 shots faced and Keith Kinkaid has allowed 129 goals on 1,188 shots. The New Jersey Devils have allowed three or less goals in five of their last seven games.
The Detroit Red Wings look for another win after winning five of their last six games. The Detroit Red Wings are averaging 2.7 goals per game and are scoring on 16.5 percent of their power play opportunities. Andreas Athanasiou leads Detroit with 29 goals, Dylan Larkin has 36 assists and Anthony Mantha has 173 shots on goal. Defensively, the Detroit Red Wings are allowing 3.3 goals per game and are killing 77.8 percent of their opponents power plays. Jimmy Howard has given up 139 goals on 1,517 shots faced and Jonathan Bernier has allowed 98 goals on 1,004 shots. The Detroit Red Wings have allowed three or less goals in five of their last eight games.
The Devils are 13-5 in their last 18 games playing on 3 or more days rest, 17-39 in their last 56 games as an underdog and 17-41 in their last 58 games as a road underdog. The Red Wings are 2-8 in their last 10 games playing on 0 days rest, 2-6 in their last 8 home games and 3-10 in their last 13 Friday games. The Devils are 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in Detroit and 8-17 in the last 25 meetings. The under is 5-1 in Devils last 6 overall. The under is 4-1 in Red Wings last 5 overall.
The Red Wings have won six of the last nine meetings against the Devils and haven't lost to them since December of 2017. I'm not sure what's gotten into the Red Wings these last two weeks, but they're playing some of their best hockey of the season and showing some fight, which includes a road overtime win last night against the Buffalo Sabres. The New Jersey Devils are well rested, but they've also been awful as an underdog and have been held to two or less goals in four of their last five games. I don't like laying juice with losing teams this time of year, but I can't bet against the Red Wings given their current form.
