The Detroit Red Wings welcome the New York Islanders to the Motor City for Saturday NHL action.
The New York Islanders need a change in momentum after a 6-2 loss at Pittsburgh on Thursday saddled the team with defeats four of five. New York received a first period goal from Brock Nelson and from Anders Lee in the third. The Islanders struggled between the pipes with Thomas Greiss surrendering five goals on 21 shots while Christopher Gibson stopping 7-8 shots for the Islanders in relief.
Kris Letang and Phil Kessel supplied two goals each for the Penguins with Riley Shehan and Sydney Crosby also lighting the lamp. Crosby and Kessel posted two assists each while Jake Guentzel totaling three helpers for Pittsburgh who received 19 stops from Casey DeSmith.
The Detroit Red Wings are looking for back to back wins after outscoring Toronto 54 in OT Thursday. Jonathan Ericsson, Luke Glendening, Gustav Nyqvist and Mike Green scored in regulation for Detroit with Dylan Larkin scoring in the extra session. Jonathan Bernier picked up the win for the Red Wings with 27 saves.
Kasperi Kapanen gave Toronto a 1-0 lead in the first with John Tavares, Zach Hyman and Andreas Johnsson lighting the lamp in the third. Jake Gardiner had two helpers for the Maple Leafs and Garret Sparks was charged with five goals on 32 shots.
