Saturday night NHL action brings us to Little Caesars Arena where the Detroit Red Wings host the New York Islanders.

The New York Islanders have not enjoyed a lot of success in 2017-18 but the team has an opportunity for a three game winning streak to close out the regular season. The Islanders have won back to back contests following a 2-1 win versus the rival Rangers.

Kevin Hayes scored the Ranger goal on a first period power play with Ondrej Pavelec taking the loss with 20 saves. Thomas Hickey  and Anthony Beauvillier scored for the Islanders in the second period and Jaroslav Halak picked up the win with 34 saves.

The Detroit Red Wings are out of the postseason for the second straight year and are looking to avoid a three game skid heading in to he offseason after a 4-3 loss to Montreal. Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi and Darren Helm supplied the goals for Detroit with Jared Coreau allowing four goals on 28 shots.

The Canadiens saw Nicolas Deslauriers pace the offense with a pair of markers with Brendan Gallagher and Arturri Lehkonen also lighting the lamp. Antti Niemi improved to 7-9-4 with three goals given up on 26 shots.

Islanders are 0-4 in their last 4 Saturday games and over is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 road games and Islanders are 1-6 in their last 7 vs. Atlantic. Red Wings are 0-5 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 7-1 in Red Wings last 8 Saturday games and over is 6-1 in Red Wings last 7 overall. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

This game doesn’t mean anything with both squads out of the playoffs so perhaps something on the over…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
