The Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings meet in the 2nd half of a home-and-home set from the Little Caesars Arena on Sunday evening.

Philadelphia was able to make it back-to-back wins while Detroit picked up a point for the 3rd straight game as the Flyers took Saturday’s meeting by a final score if 6-5 in overtime.

Philadelphia took the lead 4:34 into the game thanks to a goal from Shayne Gostisbehere before Gustav Nyquist tied the game at 1-1 heading into the second period.

The Flyers opened the 2nd by scoring a pair of goals 1:03 apart thanks to Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton at 2:59 and 4:02 respectively, helping the Flyers take a 3-1 lead into the final period where things started to get interesting.

Philly pushed the lead to 5-1 thanks to a pair of goals :53 apart within the first 1:24 of the final frame, thanks to Jakub Voracek and Nolan Patrick. The comeback was on from that point from the Red Wings, as Tyler Bertuzzi responded just 1:15 later and Thomas Vanek added a goal just :44 later. Anthony Mantha would cut the deficit to 5-4 at the 8:36 mark of the 3rd and would save his 2nd of the game for the dying moments, scoring with :07 to go, sending us to overtime.

The extra frame lasted all of 1:27 before the aforementioned Travis Konecny scored his 2nd of the game to secure the win for the Flyers.

Carter Hart got the win for Philly to improve to 12-6-1 after stopping 33 of 38 shots faced in regulation and OT while Jimmy Howard was pulled in the start after allowing 5 goals on 24 shots faced, leaving Jonathan Bernier to take the OT loss after allowing only the OT goal, falling to 6-13-3 this season.

Philadelphia is 4-0 in their last 4 road games and 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road favorite. Detroit is 4-12 in their last 16 games against the Eastern Conference and 0-5 in their last 5 Sunday games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. Philadelphia is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

I would’ve expected this to be a battle of the backups, but I don’t know what’s going to happen for Detroit after both goaltenders were used on Saturday. Even still, I’m still rolling with Philly here. The Flyers remain one of the hotter teams in the league over the last little bit while Detroit has been far from that in their own right. The fact that we are getting a low line doesn’t hurt either, so I’ll lay the cheap price with Philadelphia in this one.
