The Line: Detroit Red Wings +125 / Philadelphia Flyers -140 --- Over/Under: 5.5
Tuesday NHL action brings us to Little Caesars Arena where the Philadelphia Flyers visit the Detroit Red Wings.
The Philadelphia Flyers were unable to much of anything for the better part of two weeks but are hoping back to back wins are the beginning of a turnaround. Philadelphia comes off of a 6-3 win versus Washington where Alex Ovechkin, Chandler Stephenson and John Carlson scored for the Caps with Philipp Grubauer allowing five goals on 34 shots.
Wayne Simmonds topped the Flyers with two goals with Shayne Gostisbehere, Oskar Lindblom, Ivan Provorov and Jakub Voracek also finding the back of the net. Radko Gudas and Sean Couturier also posted a pair of assists each for the Flyers to make a winner of Petr Mrazek and his 25 saves.
The Detroit Red Wings are missing the postseason for the second straight year so the mood is not good. Detroit is mired in a ten game slide following a 5-1 defeat at Colorado where Justin Abdelkader scored for the Red Wings and Jared Coreau allowed five goals on 31 shots.
Nathan MacKinnon scored a pair of goals for the Avalanche with Gabriel Landeskog, Blake Comeau and Tyson Barrie also reaching the scoring column. Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen also supplied two assists each for the Avs and Semyon Varlamov stopped 37 shots to pick up the victory.
Flyers are 8-1 in their last 9 vs. a team with a losing record and under is 5-1 in Flyers last 6 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 4-1 in Flyers last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400. Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and Red Wings are 0-6 in their last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 4-0 in Red Wings last 4 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days. Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Detroit and Flyers are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and home team is 20-6 in the last 26 meetings.
I don’t know if the Flyers are emerging from their funk but a win here would be a huge step in that direction…
